File:Euro exchange rate to RUB.svg

- There definitely is an update needed. The original source of the data stopped providing new exchange rates (in fact stopped trading the currency altogether), so we need a replacement based on a different source. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 01:46, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Giftzwerg 88 As you have noticed no graphic worker has taken this because we (graphic workers) don't do research to find another source like that. It's up to the requester to provide the needed information. So either add the source you want us to use or please remove this request, thanks. --please ping me--

Article(s): pt:Companhia Geral de Comércio de Pernambuco e Paraíba
- Request
- I would like to request a flag used by the Companhia Geral de Comércio de Pernambuco e Paraíba fleet. There are currently two png files, although one of them contains errors. (First of all, the figure was described as Saint Anthony of Padua, traditionally depicted as a monk holding a boy. The current file appears to show Saint Elmo. Besides, I think it would be better to use a sans serif font.) I leave a drawing of the flag from 1896, which shows a more correct image. Since it is known only from descriptions, it is not necessary to rely on existing images, and it is only important to use the 7-pointed star, the motto, and Saint Anthony. --Swiãtopôłk (talk) 09:35, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

A good SVG for translation and technical publications

xcf
-
svg
Article(s): s:en:Index:Vacuum Tubes in Wireless-1918.djvu
- Request
- I have taught myself how to hand over an svg from GIMP to Inkscape and make something that is beautiful and also useful. The xcf contains a path (the ones labeled "fig" have had the alpha/num stripped from them) that needs to be reversed. I imported the picture and the path into Inkscape and proceeded to fill in the missing alpha/num characters in a layer group called "en". The 1/1,000,000 is sad there (and not beautiful). Everything in these files is a guess about what would make a good SVG for others to add to. I would like an actual SVG that is not a guess. There are other similar files in Category:Vacuum Tubes in Wireless (1918, Bucher)--RaboKarbakian (talk) 15:02, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- Unclear what exactly you want to achieve. If you want a mathematically accurate waveform, you should probably write an appropriate function in R and plot it -> save in a vector format like PostScript and import that it into Inkscape (rather than vectorize from a bitmap). Shyamal L. 15:42, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- @RaboKarbakian:
- You have converted some of the illustration to
text
elements. Those elements can now be translated with SVG Translate. That is a reasonable and a good step.- This was the thing I was most worried about.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- There is other text in the diagram: a plus ("+"), a minus ("−"), and symbol representing the period (which I cannot make out). It would be good if that text were also converted to
text
elements. That should be a simple operation. - I would not make the 1⁄1000000 second from a "1", a "__________", "1,000,000", and "SEC."; the appearance looks odd and will vary. I would replace it with the single line "1/1,000,000 s", "1⁄1000000 s", or "1 µs".
- One of the stated goals of en.wikisource is to reproduce the publication as exactly as possible. After posting this, I wondered if the SVG rendering here was or could be attached to the <math> module, as I could do this so much more easily with LaTeX than with any of the w3c ml. As this was the second biggest reason I dropped this here and if the math module is not able to do this yet; maybe ask for additional help to get this right. Right, being that it looks like the image.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Some more general comments about making SVG files cleaner and more compact.
- The diagram was converted from a bitmap. The SVG file still contains that bitmap even though the bitmap is hidden. The bitmap should be deleted; it is no longer required.
- I thought to include it to help with translation. You are certain it is not required for this?--RaboKarbakian (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- It is not required. Glrx (talk) 20:52, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- I thought to include it to help with translation. You are certain it is not required for this?--RaboKarbakian (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- If the diagram were used a lot, I would redraw it. The places where the damped sinewave crosses the x axis are muddled. I would draw the axes separately from the damped sinewave. I would draw only one damped sinewave and then clone it to make the other damped sinewaves. I would also draw the dimension lines for the period separately.
- I have had problems with remaking images too well at en:s. That the svg doesn't depart to much from the image is the best thing for right now. However, for a math book, where the formula for the curve is right there; this suggestion of yours is exactly what I want to do!--RaboKarbakian (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Redrawing a file may not be worth the effort.
- Glrx (talk) 19:58, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Glrx Thank you for your time. My biggest frustration was that ugly fraction. Maybe w3c has something that would help; MathML or such? I am going to look it up; but maybe you just know. I also considered a Postscript to svg converter; which also would have been so much better than this crappy font manipulation I put in there.

- SVG 2.0 allows HTML and MathML markup, but WMF does not allow uploading files that use those namespaces. They are also not supported by many graphics editors, so such markup is not a good choice for Commons. In addition, when such support is added, it often uses exotic
switch
elements to provide a fall back. Such code probably does not survive a round trip through a graphics editor. - Consequently, I would go for simplicity and clarity rather than trying to match the presentation exactly. Using "1 microsecond" is a simple substitution that every SVG agent will render correctly. Glrx (talk) 20:52, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Flags:
- Army/Armed Forces flag (Already exists File:Flag of the Yemen Armed Forces.svg but needs to be updated to be inline with the source that crw used),
- General Staff (which the guy making the flags messed up with and forgot to add a Yemeni flag on the top right corner),
- Joint Operations Command

Both files should be modified by moving the Syrian flag above the “Damascus flower” emblem, as seen in this low-quality image. Finally, the red color of the bar on the left (flag colors) should be replaced with green, while the green color of the stars should be replaced with red. (Red: #CE1126; Green: #007A3D) Additionally, a third star should be added in the center between the two (which would need to be realigned accordingly). - Please vectorize. For image 1, only the 'DR DOS' red text (you can ignore the smaller text above it. For image 2, just the text i.e. not the background or any colors (the vectorized text can simply be black). (FYI image 2 is sourced from a photograph hence the angle is not 100% accurate on this shot and the text is slanted downwards. Ignore this as the vectorized image should be just normal straight.) --Sceeegt (talk) 17:27, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- @Sceeegt: Hi, your request is not really of great interest (each image used one time!), but:
- rather than vectorizing some low resolution images
- you can browse for more appropriate pictures
- and search for a font to render the given text (then, no vectorize, but font outline instead)
- So, I've found some appropriate, approximate, fonts:
- >> BilkoOpti-Regular <<
- BrophyOpti
- Sorts Mill Goudy Regular
- Bamberg Serial Light
- Cardo
- Aldine 401
- Font is the same for the two requested images (a bit slanted for the second).
- At first sight, BilkoOpti-Regular seams adequate (with kerning a bit under sized).
- For free font or licensing some chars... up to you.

Ireland motorway maps

Modification of original image, updated in 2018 but still with mistakes
Article(s): en:Motorways in the Republic of Ireland, en:History of roads in Ireland, various other Irish motorway articles
- Request
- I'd like to make a request for SVG versions of Irish motorway maps if they can be made. It might be a lot of work, especially if you're unfamiliar with the Irish road network ‒ for that reason, I have given the following information to make my request as clear as possible, going by the first image:
- The map features national primary roads (which include motorways) only.
- It requires updates for extended or newly constructed motorways. These are the extension of the M18, the construction of the M17 and the extension of the M11.
- It is missing route numbers for the M50, the M2, the N19 (near Limerick), the N23 (near Tralee), the N28 (near Cork) and the N29 (near Waterford).
- Apart from the N31 and small section of the N11, all national roads shown in Dublin (inside the M50) should be removed (these roads were downgraded in 2012).
- Apart from the N6, all national roads around Galway should be removed (these roads were downgraded after the construction of the M17 and M18).
- Google Maps or OpenStreetMap shows the current Irish road network. Route number shields can be found at Category:Diagrams of route signs of Ireland. A request was made in 2018 but was archived upon request assumably due to the user having made the map themselves (second image). Derivations of the map were made to highlight specific sections of motorway for their relevant articles, it would really be appreciated if those could be made too. Please let me know if you need more information! Thanks in advance. --EthanL13 | talk 14:52, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- I would like to request the vectorisation of the coats of arms of the city of Hải Dương during the French domination period in the history of the Nguyễn Dynasty.
Addendum, The colour scheme of the Hải Dương municipal coat of arms is consistent as other examples are found here (note that some of the images on the shield are also more visible on it there). I have imported all of these images to the Wikimedia Commons, so here are more general duty (revenue tax) stamps of the French Tonkinese city of Hải-Dương to show more details of the 4 (four) images within the heraldic shield:
-
5 cents general duty stamp (blue background) - Hải Dương (1930) Society of Indo-China Philatelists.
-
5 cents general duty stamp (pink background) - Hải Dương (1930) Society of Indo-China Philatelists.
-
10 cents general duty stamp (yellow background) - Hải Dương (1930) Society of Indo-China Philatelists.
Several of the elements found in this coat of arms are similar to the coats of arms of other French Tonkinese cities, for example the mural crown 👑 element is consistent with the Hanoian and Haiphongese coats of arms, though the colour scheme is slightly more intricate.

Unfortunately, I don't have any better images of this coat of arms, it might be better to make it black and white like this, as I don't know the official colour scheme of this municipal coat of arms and I am currently unaware of any internet website or service having it.
- According to user "Massimop", the motto likely reads Calamo gloria oryza divitia ("Glory by the pen, wealth by the rice").
- Similar coats of arms
-
Coat of arms of Hanoi.
-
Coat of arms of Hải Phòng.

- Wow, it looks amazing 🤩. Thank you for making it.
- @Donald Trung and Cypp0847:
- Hi, it seems that the motto should be reconsidered as beeing something like CALAMO GLORIA - DRYZA DIVITIAE (but I read devitiaf ! is it a typo? a misprint? to be investigated?).
- Please see the stamp, at a better resolution, at [9] and [10].
- Yours, En rouge (talk) 19:12, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- En rouge, it's the same stamp, so the higher resolution should be correct (and the text needs to be adjusted). The main issue is that I haven't found a translation for the "DRYZA DEVIFIAF" yet , maybe a Latinophile here can translate it for us. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:16, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Added @Massimop: as a recipient, En rouge (talk) 19:15, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
Some context, the stamp was imported from that PDF file to the Wikimedia Commons, later someone saw the additions of the two (2) costs of arms from Wikipedia and added a Reddit post to share that they have found it. I saw the Reddit post months ago, and it was someone excitedly sharing what they saw on Wikipedia, investigating it at the Wikimedia Commons, and posted the stamp (s)he found here on Reddit. So, it's the same stamp. The "coat of arms" image is a screenshot cut out of that stamp to be used as a placeholder until someone would've vectorised it, that is why it's lower resolution than the stamp. The text of the Reddit post "Bất ngờ 2 tỉnh Hải Dương và Nam Định cũng có Coats of arms sánh vai Hải Phòng, Hà Nội :)), thêm mấy biểu tượng (coats of arms?) các tỉnh khác. Phục chế chắc bao đẹp" is a reference to the symbols found on these stamps, the two (2) "newly discovered" coats of arms being singled out as Hải Dương and Nam Định. However, they incorrectly note them as provincial coats of arms, while I am sure that they are municipal coats of arms (for example, New York City has a different seal than the State of New York, the Municipality of Groningen has a different coat of arms than the Province of Groningen, Etc.). --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:20, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- OK, but it's not the purpose.
- For the two links I give, the image resolution is better than he provided image sample here!
- And one can obviously see a different motto than the initial given one... with a different reading...
- Please zoom-in.
- thanks, En rouge (talk) 19:31, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- "DRYZA DIVITIAE" is possible, but I also read "DRYZA DIVITIAF". Now, "DIVITIÆ" actually is the Latin word for "wealth", as far as I know, "DIVITIAF" doesn't mean anything, at least I can't find the word anywhere, but until we have any concrete evidence that if is not "DRYZA DIVITIAF" we would have to go with "DRYZA DIVITIAF". --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:26, 15 February 2025 (UTC)

- I'd like you to vectorize File:Flag of Alytus.gif and replace its uses on all Wikimedia projects with its vector version. Especially, I need to replace File:Flag of Alytus.gif in ro:Lista statelor lumii. I made a village pump discusson in the Romanina Wikipedia about replacing most of non-vector versions I've got with their vector versions in ro:Lista statelor lumii. I hope you understand anything I've said and start helping me in this. - Thank you so much. I'd like you to replace the non-vector file with the vector version in all instances except ro:Lista statelor lumii. I've made the request for ro:Lista statelor lumii in the Romanian Wikipedia in their village pump. I hope you help me in this.
